Your logo design is part of your business
A logo is the “face” of a business. It’s the thing that people remember when they think of your brand. So you want your logo design to represent your business and give people a unique image to remember your brand. While having a logo may not seem so important when you are starting up a business, we can assure you that it’s essential. Think of all the big companies and how famous their logos are, it’s an essential part oh their identity.
There are basically three kinds of logos. Font-based logos consist primarily of a type treatment. The logos of IBM, Microsoft and Sony, for instance, use type treatments with a twist that makes them distinctive. Then there are logos that literally illustrate what a company does, such as when a house-painting company uses an illustration of a brush in its logo. And finally, there are abstract graphic symbols-such as Nike’s swoosh-that become linked to a company’s brand.
No matter which type you want your logo to be, it must represent your business. For example, a painting company shouldn’t have a slice of pizza as their logo 🙂
But why is a logo design so important?
1. It grabs attention
A logo can quickly grab viewers’ attention and communicate a company’s core values in an interesting way. That short attention span – you know, the one that causes consumers to judge your business by its appearance – can work to your advantage, if you have a solid logo to speak for your company.
2. It reveals your identity
Imprinted on your products, your business card and your website, your logo communicates ownership. It can tell the world/potential customers who you are, what type of product or service you sell, or what benefit you offer consumers. You can use your logo in all the video content, social media and website.
3. It makes a strong first impression
A logo is a company’s first introduction to consumers. If designed well, it can pique the interest of the public and invite them to learn more about the company. A strong logo will make a strong impression.
4. It separates you from your competition
Dare to be different with your logo, because your company logo tells consumers why your business is unique. Sure, there can be 50 other hair dressers in the area and their logo includes a scissors! But you can be different, your logo can show your strengths, your character or your mission.
A well-designed company logo can communicate everything from the company’s background (professional, relaxed, fun) to their mission (entertainment, efficiency, and innovation) through the right icon or proper font.
5. It can reach everywhere
Placing your logo on all of your marketing, packaging, products, social media, website, etc. is a way to advertise your brand and your message consistently, whether it’s in the store, in your customers’ homes, online, i.e., everywhere you want to be. If you’ve developed your brand message and successfully tied it to your logo, everything you do and create becomes associated with the logo and the brand.
